Azur Wines is one of a handful of Napa Valley producers that make predominantly rosé wines, but fortunately they also make a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc! This lovely, bright wine has gorgeous unique aromatics of citrus with notes of melon sage and nectarine. There’s good complexity and minerality here with flavors of grapefruit, gooseberry, kiwi, almond and lemongrass.

Julien Fayard brings a dynamic winemaking background from both his extensive studies and professional work experience in France and California. He studied in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley where he gained the experience that defined his winemaking style by working hands-on at grand chateaux in France such as Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Laffite. He recently returned to Napa Valley after a three year stint as winemaker at his family’s winery in the Cote d’Azur. He is particularly fond of his rosé wines that express a Provence style in a California wine.
This flavorful Sauvignon Blanc is a great match for seafood, from shellfish with garlic and herbs to smoked fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines. The wine will stand up brilliantly to rich fish stews, such as a savory bouillabaisse or cioppino, and has enough body to pair with pork or rotisserie chicken seasoned with lemon and herbs. Tangy, sharp cheese like a goat cheese crottin or a mild blue would also be delicious. You cannot go wrong with my Pan-Roasted Trout Bruschetta with Chili Vinaigrette.
Julien crafts his wines in the manner of his family’s estate, Château Sainte Margerite, in the Cotes de Provence of France. Château Sainte Margerite has the distinction of being one of only 18 estates of about 355 in Cotes de Provence that are ranked as a high quality Cru Classe.
